About Us
The Volunteer Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting volunteerism in the San Francisco East Bay Area. Our primary goal is to expand service to meet the needs of our local communities. We have hundreds of nonprofit and public partners that rely on us to recruit the volunteers they need to fulfill thousands of volunteer opportunities. Every year over 15,000 people answer the call and connect with volunteer opportunities through our services.
Our Programs
Board Link
Serving on a nonprofit board of directors is a way to offer significant support to the causes most important to you. Our Board Link program connects volunteers with board positions in the East Bay.
Corporate Caring Volunteer Week
Civic-minded business groups can sign up for Corporate Caring Volunteer Week and join the 3,200+ employees we match with volunteer projects every September. ** We also offer ongoing team building volunteer opportunities for area businesses.
Disaster Response
Our Disaster Response program provides an avenue for the public to help with relief and recovery efforts after a catastrophic event.
East Bay Business Volunteer Council (BVC)
The Business Volunteer Council (BVC) is a coalition of East Bay businesses sharing a common interest in workplace volunteering and community engagement.
Family Volunteering
Family volunteering strengthens families and strengthens our community. We’ve collected resources to help your family get involved.
Holiday Programs
During the holidays, our Center helps community members locate toy and food drives, sponsor-a-family programs and holiday-related volunteer activities.
Know How Network
The Know How Network recruits volunteers ages 55+ with marketing, human resources, technology, and other expertise to help nonprofits with high-impact, short-term projects.
Student Volunteering
Our Student Volunteering program makes it easy to find local service opportunities available to students ages 13-17. We also publish a monthly youth project e-bulletin.

Center staff supports our nonprofit and public partners by providing training and technical assistance in volunteer management.
